I have officially entered 2 reading challenges for 2012:
The Eclectic Reader Challenge
The TBR Double Dare
The Double Dare only runs through April 1st……which is good. It will be a challenge to make it all the way to April without starting a brand new book.
Are there any other good challenges out there? Suggestions?

If your kids are like mine, they received a number of books this holiday season. In our house, Santa loves to leave new books under the tree.
Little Reader #1 (8 years old going on 33) is planning on doing her own reading challenge. She is going to see how many of the books she received for Christmas she can start and finish in the month of January.
Here is her list:
Savvy by Ingrid Law
The Tail of Emily Windsnap by Liz Kessler
Ten by Lauren Myracle
Clementine and the Family Meeting by Sara Pennypacker
American Girl Mini Mysteries 3
Just Ella by Margaret Peterson Haddix
Darth Paper Strikes Back by Tom Angleberger
The Abominable Snowman (Choose your Own Adventure) by R.A. Montgomery
Happy Birthday Bad Kitty by Nick Bruel
Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of Nimh by Robert C. O’brien
Harriet the Spy by Louise Fitzhugh
The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster
I think she’s got some good ones on there…..any recommendations out there for 3rd, 4th or 5th grade level kids books? What were your favorites?

I recently learned about the site Novel Challenges and wanted to add a few of the challenges to my New Year’s Resolutions.
I’m also always looking for ways to help my kids learn outside the classroom and reading plays a huge part in that……I often find cool “extra credit” activities for kids and would like a community to share those with and get additional ideas from.
So, if I wanted to participate in challenges, maybe start a kids challenge for my 2 little ones (and any of yours that want to participate) AND share all of the cool books/sites/learning apps/toys/activities I come across this year, I thought a blog would be the way to do it!
Hope to meet fellow readers and parents who are interested reading, playing and learning along with their kids!
